SUMMARY OF OP-EDS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS

Yediot Ahronot reminds its readers that UN Security Council Resolution 1929, which imposes further sanctions on Iran, declares that, "Iran is now under a new regime of supervision over suspicious cargos."  The author discusses the putative Iranian aid ship to Gaza and asserts that, "The Government of Israel should already announce that any Iranian ship to Gaza is suspected of smuggling weapons and ordnance and, therefore, demands that it be stopped and searched immediately," adding that, "All countries must obey this demand as per the directive of the UN Security Council."

Ma'ariv addresses the Turkish Prime Minister: "Mr. Erdogan, before you dispatch ships with mercenaries, admit that genocide against the Armenian people was perpetrated on your soil.  Before you dare to save the world, remember the Kurdish people, who live under your occupation and do not have an independent state.  Also remember that you divided Cyprus just as Palestine is divided between Gaza and Ramallah."

Yisrael Hayom refers to the recent Belgian election, in which Flemish nationalist parties won around 40% of the vote, and suggests that, "Belgium is an example of the failure of ethnic integration in states that were established not on the basis of a common ethnicity but as an idea dictated by politicians."  The author believes that, "Belgium is a warning sign to those who would like to implement a similar idea here and are toying with the idea of a state of all its citizens as a just and possible solution to the dispute between Jews and Muslims," and adds that, "Anyone with sense may immediately conclude that if Belgium, after so many years in the cultivated laboratory of Brussels, is an experiment destined to fail, how would this work in our country, in which the ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic differences between Palestinians and Jews are merely the introduction to a geo-political conflict."

The Jerusalem Post
editorial was not available today.

Haaretz discusses the High Court ruling regarding the Haredi education system's discrimination against Mizrahi girls in Immanuel, which has become a locus of aggression that puts the government, the education system and law enforcement to the test. The editor states that "The discrimination in Immanuel contains in a nutshell the essence of the clash between the rule of law and separatist interest groups," and calls on the government to implement the court's verdict. The editor adds that "Any compromise the government makes with discriminatory institutions will only erode its autonomy further still."

[Guy Bechor, Dr. Leon Ardekian and Lior Alperovitch wrote today’s articles in Yediot Ahronot, Ma'ariv and Yisrael Hayom, respectively.]
