SUMMARY OF OP-EDS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS
Five of the editorials discuss today's tripartite summit meeting in New York:
Yediot Aharonot argues that "It doesn't really matter what Ahmadinejad will say in his UN speech. The fact that they are giving the stage to a serial Holocaust denier, who defrauds elections in his own country and murders opposition demonstrators, is a great scandal. Any contact with the Iranian president, direct or indirect, is like a stab in the back of the freedom-striving Iranian people and a moral crime against the Jewish people."
Ma'ariv cites The Good, The Bad And The Ugly: "'If you want to shoot, shoot; don't talk', and he was right. The Americans talked, chattered and boasted, and in the end gave in, at least for the time being."
Yisrael Hayom professes that "The matter of Netanyahu and Abu Mazen is important. His course of action regarding Iran is fateful."
Nana10 says that "The uncertainty among the media regarding the content of the leaders' summit in New York is considerable. On one hand, there is no doubt that the gaps in rhetoric between Israel and the Palestinians are tremendous, but whoever said that rhetoric is everything?" The author does not believe that US President Obama is wasting his time just for the sake of a photo-op: "This is the opportunity for him to work his magic and for Bibi to be politically courageous for the first time in his term."
The Jerusalem Post discusses the Obama administration foreign policy reversals, especially those related to the Middle East, and states that Netanyahu and Abbas must "both be asking themselves a question neither would have anticipated eight months ago: Can America be relied upon and taken seriously?" The editor adds that "That uncertainty can only further undermine the prospects for a substantive Israeli-Palestinian breakthrough - a breakthrough all three players at today's summit profess to fervently desire."

Haaretz expresses optimism at the upturn in the economy, as expressed by an impressive increase in the number of positions for which employers are seeking new workers, and declares that "The primary lesson that can be derived from the Israeli economy's rapid recovery from the crisis is that we cannot live beyond our means.".
