SUMMARY OF EDITORIALS FROM THE HEBREW PRESS

Yediot Ahronot contends that a unity of interests existed between Israel and the US until last week's disclosure by Present George Bush of details of the attack on the Syrian reactor.  The editors opine that, "President Bush is concluding his second term in office with zero accomplishments in foreign affairs…and, therefore, it is very nice for him to warm himself in the aura of the successful foiling of the evil project in Syrian, the existence of which cannot be denied."

Haaretz comments on two breakaway members of the Pensioners Party who are forming their own faction under the patronage of Arcadi Gaydamak, and states that the Pensioners Party will be remembered as one more repellent and frustrating episode in the history of Israeli politics.

The Jerusalem Post
laments that Israel's three major parties appear disinterested in fielding a candidate in Jerusalem's upcoming municipal elections, due to be held in November.

Ma'ariv presents two opposing arguments for and against a peace deal with Syria.  One contends that, "Syria must first cut its ties with Iran and Hezbollah, and only then can there be negotiations."  The other believes that, "A peace accord with Syria is a strategic card against Ahmadinejad."

[Ronen Bergman, and Yosef Harif and Yariv Oppenheimer, wrote today’s articles in Yediot Ahronotand Ma'ariv, respectively.  Makor Rishon-Hatzofehwas unavailable today.]
